Monday, April 28th, 2008
Classical music is coming to Queen Mary 2 once more, as part of an enrichment programme that will prove "truly memorable" for cruise passengers.
President of Cunard Cruises Carol Marlow described the addition of chamber music ensemble the Boston Symphony Chamber Players as such after it was revealed that the group will perform on the cruise ship from September 2008.
In addition to performing and playing for guests onboard QM2, the Boston Symphony Chamber Players will also host enrichment lectures.
"The Boston Symphony Chamber Players have performed to critical acclaim in the great concert halls around the globe and we are excited to add performances on the world’s grandest ocean liner to our list of accomplishments," Mark Volpe, managing director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, commented.
Ms Marlow, meanwhile, described classical music as an inimitable trait of Cunard heritage.
QM2’s sister ship the QE2 is set to retire later this year and plans are underway to construct a new Cunardier: Queen Elizabeth.
