Superliners Are Finding Their Own Niches
Friday, December 12th, 2008
With a host of superliners entering the market, cruise fans might be wondering where to start when it comes to booking next year’s holiday.
Carnival Splendor, Holland America’s Eurodam and Celebrity Solstice are just three of the big players taking to the seas this season - giving holidaymakers a headache as they decide which is right for them.
What they should bear in mind, according to one expert, is a new trend that is emerging with the arrival of superliners - individuality.
”The new ships have their own feel. They’re more defined, finding their niches,” Mike Driscoll, editor of Cruise Week, told the Miami Herald.
For example, those seeking to enjoy the relaxation a cruise can bring without the indulgence that often goes with it could opt for Celebrity Solstice, which has introduced a range of healthy eating menus.
When it launches next year, Royal Caribbean’s 16-deck Oasis of the Seas will introduce the concept of neighbourhoods onboard a ship, giving passengers the choice of a variety of accommodation experiences, while guests on Carnival Splendor can take advantage of the biggest spa area in the fleet.
Carnival Cruises and Royal Caribbean were both recognised at the recent World Travel Awards - in the best cruise line and best brand categories respectively.
