Queen Mary 2 Celebrates Fifth Birthday
Friday, January 9th, 2009
The Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 will celebrate her fifth birthday on January 12th.
Considered to be one of the finest liners ever built, Queen Mary 2 was launched in 2004, in a lavish ceremony in Southampton.
Since entering service the vessel has sailed over 750,000 nautical miles and crossed the Atlantic 104 times.
Commenting on this milestone, Carol Marlow, president and managing director of Cunard, said the cruise line was very proud of the ship and her achievements.
"In her young life, Queen Mary 2 has attracted thousands of well-wishers in many ports around the world, achieving iconic status," she added.
As part of the ship’s birthday celebrations she will complete a lap of honour around the UK later this year, leaving Southampton in October.
The Cunard Line’s iconic QE2 vessel retired from service earlier this year and will be replaced in 2010 by a new superliner.
