QE2 Drops Anchor In Dubai

Rather than churn out cruise news in a rather bland way we've decided to discontinue the news in this format and use our cruise blog to cover any newsworthy events.

QE2 drops anchor in Dubai
The QE2 has docked for the last time in Dubai, where she will become a floating hotel.

Met by a flotilla of smaller ships and an Airbus A380, the world-famous liner cruised into the United Arab Emirates this morning.

The 70-tonne Cunard liner will form the centrepiece of the Palm Jumeirah and will be made into one of Dubai’s most exclusive hotels.

Cunard sold the QE2 for £50 million and it is thought that every cabin will be fully refurbished and decorated in the latest trends.

The vessel will also be stripped of its engines in order to create more space and, according to the BBC New Window, developers may be planning to slice off the ship’s giant red funnel and use it as an entrance.

Another ship previously operated by the Cunard Line – the Queen Mary – is currently being used as a floating hotel in California.
