P&O Ventura To The Rescue
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Luxury cruise ship Ventura has been moonlighting as a coastal rescue vessel in recent times.
The popular liner came to the aid of a yachtsman after intercepting a distress call from the boat.
P&O’s ship received a call from the French skipper, who had fallen and broken his hip. Keith Dowds, Ventura’s captain, diverted his course and headed in the direction of the troubled yacht.
The injured man was brought onboard and treated by medical staff, before being taken to hospital when the liner docked in Malaga, the Southern Daily Echo reports.
When not helping distressed yachtsmen, Ventura doubles as a family-friendly ship that is the epitome of style.
P&O has decked her out with more than 7,000 specially commissioned artworks and a trio of restaurants, including a fine dining eatery designed by Marco Pierre White.
Ventura also boasts some slightly more unusual ways to keep its guests entertained, such as a contemporary circus school and Scalextric at Sea.
