Monday, July 28th, 2008
P&O Cruises has banned smoking on a number of its vessels, according to reports.
From October of this year smoking will no longer be permitted on the Oceana, Ventura and Artemis.
Those wishing to enjoy a cigarette onboard will be required to go to one of the ship’s outdoor smoking areas.
According to Cruise Talk Central, smoking will still be permitted on individual cabin balconies.
Nigel Esdale, P&O Cruises managing director, said that since the smoking ban Britons has become accustomed to living in a smoke-free environment and pointed our that 76 per cent of the public were in favour of the ban.
" Ventura and Oceana are both child friendly and between them could have over 1,000 children on board at any one time, therefore we want to ensure they are clean air on board as well as clean ocean air out on open deck," he explained.
Mr Esdale added that going smoke-free would create a cleaner and more pleasant environment for passengers.
Other ships operated by P&O Cruises include the Arcadia, Artemis and Oriana.
