New Zealand Cruise Arrivals On The Up

Rather than churn out cruise news in a rather bland way we've decided to discontinue the news in this format and use our cruise blog to cover any newsworthy events.

New Zealand cruise arrivals on the up
New Zealand’s cruise industry is "booming", according to one commentator.

Figures from Cruise New Zealand reveal that tourist arrivals in the 2007-08 cruise season have shown a massive increase on previous cruise seasons, Tourism New Zealand reports.

A record 168,000 passengers and crew travelled to the region on cruise ships last season docking at ports such as Auckland and Otago.

"That means cruise passengers represent a great opportunity for New Zealand to attract repeat visitors," Tourism New Zealand chief executive George Hickton said.

He added that 70 per cent of US visitors who take cruises to New Zealand are so enamoured that they choose to return on longer breaks.

The figures also show that in the 1996-1997 cruise season, New Zealand attracted 27 cruises and 19,400 passengers compared to 116, 200 passengers and 98 cruises last season.
