Carnival Cruises has delayed scheduling a voyage through the port of New Orleans, it has been announced.
Slow bookings are the cause of the delay which, according to a port spokesman, is due to reluctance on the part of tourists to visit the post-Hurricane Katrina city, the Associated Press reported.
The Carnival Triumph, originally scheduled to visit the city in August, is now looking to sail no earlier than April 2008.
"There are lingering misconceptions by the vacationing public as to the recovery of New Orleans’ tourism infrastructure, which has necessitated a re-evaluation of our timeline for adding a second ship to that port," Bob Dickinson, Carnival Cruises president commented.
"We will continue our efforts to build consumer interest in cruising from New Orleans and to counter some of the erroneous perceptions of the city that are currently posing a challenge," he added.
However, currently docked in New Orleans harbour is Triumph’s sister ship Carnival Fantasy.
Fantasy, along with Norwegian Cruise Lines’ The Sun and Royal Caribbean Cruises‘ Grandeur of the Seas, sails between New Orleans and the Caribbean on a regular basis.
Furthermore, the Associated Press noted that the 2,056-passenger cruise liner Fantasy has been leaving New Orleans full.
