Holidaymakers are shunning land-based holidays in favour of cruises during the recession, it has been claimed.
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) claims its bookings are up 15 per cent on last year, despite the economic downturn.
Furthermore, the cruise line’s Group 2.0 Programme has seen a 288 per cent rise in group staterooms booked, compared to 2008.
Andy Stuart, NCL’s executive vice president of global sales and passenger services, said that cruises offer tremendous value during these difficult times.
"We are encouraged by this double-digit growth and we want to thank our travel partners for their assistance in showing today’s wary consumers that they can still take an enjoyable and relaxing vacation on one of our 11 Freestyle Cruising ships," he explained.
NCL revealed earlier this week that its forthcoming Epic ship will feature an exclusive, private complex with 60 suites and villas.
This "ship-within-a-ship" will also boasts its own swimming pool, concierge lounge and bar.
