Guests aboard Costa’s newest ship will be able to view what is being described as a "monumental" piece of sculpture.
The cruise line has commissioned Fernando Botero to create the bronze piece - titled Reclining Woman 2004 - for the Costa Luminosa.
Measuring 346 cm in length, 177 cm in breadth and 152 cm in height - and weighing 910 kg - the sculpture will depict the daydreaming woman who forms the focus of much of the artist’s work.
Costa intends for the commission to become the symbol of the ship, which itself promises to be a thing of beauty, matching classical marble and mother-of-pearl finishes with state of the art lighting.
"This particular sculpture by Botero has such expressive force and energy that it will interact with and influence the setting and interior design in the spectacular atrium of the ship where it is to be permanently exhibited," said Costa’s charman and chief executive Pier Luigi Foschi.
Costa Luminosa is set to be one of the newest additions to a fleet which its owners claim offer "unmistakable Italian style".
