Holland America Line Names Latest Ship Nieuw Amsterdam

Holland America Line has announced that its latest ship will be called the Nieuw Amsterdam.
Due for delivery in 2010, the Signature Class ship will have a passenger capacity of 2,106 and an interior reflecting the "glamour and history" of New York City.
Stein Kruse, president and chief executive of Holland America Line, said the Nieuw Amsterdam reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the mid-size market.
"This name has a rich heritage in our company with this ship being our fourth in 135 years. We are proud to extend this illustrious ship name to our current fleet," he commented.
The premium vessel will feature glass elevators, a cyber café, a culinary arts centre, health spa and teenage-only zone known as The Loft.
"This new class of ships demonstrates the strength of our brand, the loyalty of our guests and the dedication of our more than 16,000 employees worldwide," Mr Kruse added.
Other ships operated by Holland America Line include the ms Veendam, ms Rotterdam and ms Eurodam.
