Dual Captains For Oasis Of The Seas

Dual captains for Oasis of the Seas
The world’s biggest cruise ship will set sail with not one but two captains when it is completed, it has been revealed.

Captain Bill Wright, senior vice-president of marine operations for Royal Caribbean, told Cruise Business Online New Window that he will be joining Captain Tom Olsen for Oasis of the Seas’s first season.

He explained: "With lot of inaugural activities planned for first weeks of operations, we felt that it is appropriate to operate Oasis with two masters rather than one."

Oasis of the Seas will launch late in 2009 and will weigh 220,000 gross tonnes and feature 2,700 staterooms, seven neighbourhoods, 16 decks and the ability to host 5,400 guests.

It is currently being built in Turku, Finland. The ship’s itineraries include trips to the eastern Caribbean, where it will call at Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas; Philipsburg, St Maarten and Nassau, Bahamas.
