Monday, January 12th, 2009
Holidaymakers visiting Florida can learn more about Tampa’s history as a cruise port by visiting a new exhibition which opens there this month.
From January 17th a new permanent exhibition will open at the Tampa Bay History Centre, detailing the area’s evolution from a small port to a major cruise hotspot.
One of the exhibition’s highlights is a movie theatre made from a converted shipping container, where visitors can view a six-minute film about the history of the port.
Richard Wainio, Tampa’s port director and chief executive, said: "The Port of Tampa is at the heart of Tampa Bay’s rich history and we are very excited to see a quality exhibit that underscores the significant and far-reaching role of the port in the vitality of the region."
Visitors will also have the opportunity to view photographs, historical artefacts and read text panels.
Other top attractions for cruise passengers visiting Tampa include the Lowry Park Zoo and Florida Aquarium, World Travel Guide reports.
