The popular cruise ship port of call Costa Maya is to reopen earlier than initially expected, reports suggest.
A popular destination on the western Caribbean cruise itineraries of cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean International and Princess Cruises, Cruise Critic notes that the port was damaged last year by Hurricane Dean.
However, it is now anticipated that the port on Mexico’s Maya Riviera could be welcoming cruise ships as early as this September.
Cruise lines aiming to put Costa Maya back on their itineraries include Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Ocean Village and P&O Cruises.
Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas is scheduled to call at the port in 2010, according to a spokesperson.
In other recent Royal Caribbean news, the cruise line is hoping to launch the 1,180-footlong Project Genesis next year, worth an estimated $1.24 billion.
