Thursday, November 20th, 2008
Costa Cruises has announced plans to open a state-of-the-art telemedicine suite onboard the Costa Concordia from next year.
The suite will be operated in collaboration with Genoa’s Galliera Hospital, the Genoese engineering company D’Appolonia and the International Radio Medical Centre.
Once opened, passengers will have access to advanced medical technology around the clock, with the new service allowing for diagnosis and consultation to take place at a distance.
Costa Cruises president Gianni Onorato said the cruise line was proud to be involved in the first experiment in telemedicine at sea.
"This is a highly innovative and extremely important project; the aim of this European first is to further enhance the quality of the service for our guests and crew," he added.
In other news, Costa Cruises recently announced that work was continuing on the Costa Deliziosa, which is due to enter service in 2010.
