Celebrity Forced To Cancel Cruises Following Damage
Monday, July 9th, 2007
Celebrity Cruises has unfortunately been forced to cancel two of its 12-night Mediterranean cruise following damage to one of its liners.
Following an electrical malfunction, the Celebrity Millennium sustained damage to its propellers when they struck rocks below the water level while anchored off Villefranche in France.
As a result of the incident, three blades on the starboard propeller and one on the port side now require replacement.
While it had been hoped that repairs could be conducted while the ship was anchored, it must in fact be drydocked for work to be completed.
Dan Hanrahan, president of Celebrity Cruises, said: "We deeply regret having to cancel these sailings and apologise to our guests for the disruption this will cause them."
He added that the company would rapidly address the necessary repair work and return the vessel to full service by July 24th 2007.
The 2,034-passenger Celebrity Millennium was inaugurated in June 2000 and offers cruise holiday passengers a range of amenities, from the RMS Olympic Restaurant and vast library to internet access and an AquaSpa.
