Now that Celebrity Cruises has finished its facelift of Celebrity Summit, which concluded this weekend in Hamburg, Germany, the cruise ship will resume its European season.
During its overhaul, thousands of square feet of tiles and carpet and yards of fabric were replaced. Wooden railings were varnished, fixtures were replaced and brand new fittings were installed - including a 11,000-kilowatt diesel dedicated electrical generation system (genset).
The genset system aims to reduce fuel consumption by generating electricity for the ship during its time in port.
"We tend to be modest about talking about the work that takes place during scheduled drydocks, but it’s a high priority and a significant investment, because we know how important it is to guest satisfaction and our brand as a whole," the vice-president of hotel operations at Celebrity Cruises, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, commented.
Care and maintenance of cruise ships, including their exterior and interior appearances, is crucial, according to senior vice-president of marine operations John Krousouloudis.
The news comes as TravelMole reports that Celebrity Galaxy will be leaving Celebrity Cruises to enter into service for TUI Cruises next year in May.
