Britons Increasingly Enamoured With Cruising
Wednesday, March 14th, 2007More British people than ever before are taking to the seas in search of the perfect cruise holiday, it has been revealed.
According to a recent study by the European Cruise Council and released by the Passenger Shipping Association, 3.4 million Europeans went on cruise holidays last year, a nine per cent increase on those travelling in 2005.
Furthermore, the research showed that 1.2 million of those travelling the seas were British holidaymakers compared to 705,000 German travellers and over 500,000 Italian cruisers.
"Just ten years ago only one million Europeans took a cruise holiday. Now there are 3.4 million Europeans enjoying cruises," commented David Dingle managing director of Carnival Cruises UK.
He added that he expected the figure to reach five million by 2015.
The survey revealed that the top cruising destination for European travellers were the Mediterranean and Atlantic Islands, with 69 per cent of holidaymakers opting for cruises to these areas.
