Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has announced that its 839-passenger ship Boudicca is heading to Portsmouth.
Boudicca - which was refitted in 2006 - has a total of 437 cabins and a speed of 20 knots.
The company is to operate five cruises to the exotic locations of the Adriatic and the Mediterranean from this Autumn, according to the News.
Nigel Linguard, marketing director of Fred Olsen, commented: "If other companies see us doing well here they may follow and I know the port wants to see more cruises."
He added that the company liked to use ports in order to reduce the journey time for their passengers.
The first two cruises are expected to be a 21-night cruise around the Adriatic and a Mediterranean cruise covering 12 nights.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines began life in 1848. The company also has interests in the luxury hotels sector, estate management and property development.
