Bagpuss And Friends To Sail With Ocean Village Cruises

A pink stripy cat likely to be familiar to both adults and children is set to sail on Ocean Village Cruises this month, it has been announced.

The iconic cat known as Bagpuss was popularised in a 1947 children’s television series - making the news likely to be of appeal to both children and adults looking to enjoy a family cruise.

Ocean Village Cruises notes that Bagpuss was voted the UK’s most popular BBC children’s programme of all time in 1999.

Passengers will be able to meet Bagpuss in person and have their photo taken with him following a combined puppet and TV story-time performance in the cruise chips’ bars.

"I think it’s lovely for the whole family, you can tell how much the kids enjoyed it by how quickly they ran up to have their photo taken at the end of his performance. It’s a really fun blast from the past for us adults," one passenger told Ocean Village Cruises.

Meanwhile, Gill Haynes, head of marketing communications at Ocean Village Cruises, predicted that Bagpuss would be a "real wow onboard".

In the original children’s series, Bagpuss and fellow toys would come to life and play before yawning and falling back to sleep.
